Creating connections through Covid-19

No one can deny that this past year has been difficult during the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Reaching out to people and maintaining communication has become much harder than ever before. Whether it is having someone to rant about your work life to or plugging in for a general chat, we all need someone to share our daily experiences with.

With these unprecedented times, it has become cardinal to have someone to engage with in order to combat one of the world’s most current issues; solidarity. Loneliness is a biological signal for us to call out to others. Making connections has become paramount for survival. With the outbreak of Covid-19, this biological signal may rise for numerous people, who in turn receive nothing to alleviate it. Furthermore, the Coronavirus has lead to the implementation of measures such as social distancing and limited crowds. Although this will help improve our physical health, it may severely damage our mental health.

A study found from Ross University has established that social distancing has a deteriorating effect on the older generation. It has caused them to become more agitated and socially withdrawn. Having someone outside of your household to confide in sounds like the ideal solution to help people orchestrate their stress in a more harmonising way.

Furthermore we are very excited to match you, your children, or an elderly member with a companion or mentor, where you can discuss school life, personal life, work life, etc. In the end of it all, we hope you make a lifelong friend! We pair healthcare workers with volunteers based on experience and availability, and our vetting process ensures that our volunteers are safe and healthy. We also require 14 days in between switching to a new family. We have a vibrant array of volunteers who are willing to partner up with anyone who are experiencing the shadows of loneliness or even boredom. Whatever the situation, MDCS have established a service which will reach out to those who need it.

You just need to contact us and we will match you to one of our caring and experienced volunteers. You can find further details on our website or Facebook page. In a world where segregation has become rife, communicating with others has become more essential to help us all through these uncertain times.
